Dr. Khaleda Akter graduated from Chittagong Medical College under the University of Chittagong in 2001. She completed her postgraduate training at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University during 2003–2004 and began her professional career as a Medical Officer at Dr. M.R. Khan Shishu Hospital in 2004. She also served as a Clinical Fellow, further strengthening her clinical expertise.

In January 2008, she obtained the Diploma in Child Health (DCH) from the Bangladesh Institute of Child Health, Dhaka Shishu Hospital. She subsequently worked at Medical College for Women & Hospital from 2008 to 2010. In January 2013, she achieved the prestigious FCPS in General Pediatrics from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), Dhaka.

Dr. Akter has been serving as a Neonatologist in the ICU of Uttara Crescent Hospital since June 2010, demonstrating long-term commitment to neonatal care. She has also successfully completed postgraduate training in Pediatric Nutrition from Boston University, USA. In recognition of her academic and clinical contributions, she was appointed as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Nightingale Medical College.
